In industrial TCM production, raw herbal materials are processed through crushing, leaching and coarse filtration to obtain crude extraction liquid. This crude liquid contains not only effective active ingredients such as saponins, flavonoids and alkaloids, but also a variety of interfering impurities. Inorganic salts, free small-molecule pigments, tannins and residual pectin colloids will lead to liquid turbidity, poor clarity, easy precipitation and unstable medicinal properties if not removed thoroughly. These problems seriously affect the quality qualification rate, shelf stability and safety of oral liquid, granules and other TCM finished products.
Traditional TCM purification processes have obvious limitations in fine processing. Multiple alcohol precipitation consumes massive ethanol, increases production costs, and easily causes loss of partial heat-sensitive active ingredients. Resin purification requires frequent regeneration, produces large amounts of wastewater, and cannot achieve precise desalination. High-temperature evaporative concentration will cause oxidation and browning of TCM extracts, resulting in darkened color, reduced efficacy and poor product consistency.
Nanofiltration membrane separation technology effectively makes up for the deficiencies of traditional TCM refining processes. Based on unique molecular screening and charge adsorption principle, the NF membrane accurately intercepts macromolecular active medicinal components, while allowing unwanted small-molecule salts, pigments and heterologous impurities to penetrate the membrane for removal. The whole process adopts cross-flow circulating operation, which forms continuous liquid scouring on the membrane surface, effectively preventing colloidal accumulation and membrane fouling, and ensuring long-term stable filtration efficiency.
The entire refining and concentration process is carried out under normal temperature and physical separation conditions, without heating, solvent addition or chemical treatment. It maximally protects the biological activity of TCM active ingredients and avoids quality degradation caused by traditional processes. Nanofiltration equipment integrates impurity removal, desalination, decolorization and low-temperature concentration in one step, which greatly simplifies the production process, shortens the production cycle and improves production efficiency.
This technology is widely applicable to the fine purification of various herbal extracts such as compound Chinese medicine extracts, single herbal leachate and health-care botanical liquid. The fully automatic membrane system supports continuous and intelligent production, reduces manual operation errors, and avoids waste of filter materials and chemical reagents. According to different medicinal formulas and impurity characteristics, manufacturers can adjust operating pressure, flow rate and membrane parameters to achieve targeted refining effects.
After nanofiltration fine treatment, the TCM extract presents clear and transparent appearance, stable physical and chemical properties, low salt content and high active ingredient purity. It effectively solves common industry problems such as finished product precipitation, layered turbidity and unstable efficacy. Compact skid-mounted membrane equipment is easy to install and transform on original production lines, helping modern TCM processing enterprises realize green production, improve product grade and meet international pharmaceutical processing standards.
