Introduction

Areca nut extract is an important raw material widely used in food deep‑processing and food‑additive industries. Crude areca nut liquid contains large quantities of pigments, colloids, macromolecular impurities and suspended residues. Without proper purification treatment, downstream concentration will face serious problems such as membrane/evaporator fouling, dark‑colored finished products and unstable product quality.

Traditional separation methods like plate‑and‑frame filtration and centrifugation can only remove large‑particle residues. Fine colloids and partial pigments still remain in the liquid, which cannot meet the requirement for high‑purity areca nut ingredients. Cross‑flow membrane separation provides a room‑temperature physical solution for areca nut extract processing, no filter aids or chemical flocculants required.

Working Principle

Driven by pressure, raw areca nut extract flows tangentially over the membrane surface.

Macromolecular substances, pigments, colloids and solid impurities are trapped on the feed side to form retentate. Small‑molecule target active components pass through the membrane and generate clean permeate.

The whole process runs under ambient temperature. It avoids thermal degradation of heat‑sensitive active substances caused by high‑temperature evaporation, and maintains the natural characteristics of areca nut effective constituents.
