Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration and Spiral Membrane Concentration for Mango Juice Processing

Mango juice is one of the most popular tropical fruit concentrates in the global beverage and food industry. Known for its unique sweet aroma, bright color, and rich nutritional value, mango concentrate is widely applied in fruit drinks, yogurt, ice cream, and functional beverage products. However, raw mango juice contains a large amount of soluble pectin, fine pulp residues, proteins, and colloidal substances. These unstable components easily cause turbidity, precipitation, and color deterioration during storage, which greatly affects the appearance and shelf life of commercial mango juice products. Traditional processing methods rely on diatomaceous earth filtration and high-temperature thermal evaporation, which cannot completely remove colloidal impurities. Meanwhile, long-time high-temperature treatment destroys natural mango flavor, degrades heat-sensitive vitamins, and causes browning problems, resulting in low product quality and high energy consumption.

To solve the common pain points in mango juice production, more and more fruit processing factories are adopting a two-stage green membrane processing solution: hollow fiber ultrafiltration clarification combined with spiral wound membrane low-temperature concentration. This all-physical separation technology effectively optimizes the entire mango juice purification and concentration process without adding chemical additives.

In the first clarification stage, hollow fiber ultrafiltration systems work at room temperature to intercept fine pulp, macromolecular pectin, colloids, and residual impurity particles. Different from traditional filter aids, hollow fiber membrane separation achieves precise impurity removal through physical pore size screening. It thoroughly solves the post-precipitation problem of mango juice and significantly improves liquid clarity. At the same time, the whole process avoids thermal damage and completely retains the original tropical aroma and nutrients of mango.

After clarification, the clear mango juice enters the spiral wound membrane unit for low-temperature concentration. Under mild operating conditions, the spiral membrane removes excess water to raise the solid content of mango juice. Compared with thermal evaporation, this membrane concentration method greatly reduces energy consumption and prevents product browning caused by high heat. The final mango concentrate features stable color, consistent flavor and longer shelf life.

This membrane combination technology brings simplified workflow and less waste discharge. It is a cost-effective and eco-friendly option for medium and large mango juice manufacturers, helping factories produce high-quality tropical fruit concentrate to meet global market requirements.

Membrane separation technology is a kind of technology that uses a selectively permeable membrane as the separation medium. By applying a certain driving force (such as pressure difference, concentration difference, etc.) on both sides of the membrane, the components on the feed side can selectively permeate through the membrane, so as to achieve the purposes of separation, purification, concentration and so on.
Nowadays, more and more enterprises have keenly perceived the remarkable advantages brought by membrane technology and are actively adopting this technology to boost their own development.

In the food and beverage industry, enterprises utilize membrane technology for operations such as juice concentration and protein purification. This not only effectively preserves the flavor and nutritional components of products but also enhances product quality and extends the shelf life.

In the chemical industry, membrane technology can be applied to the recovery and separation of solvents. It improves the utilization rate of raw materials, reduces production costs, and at the same time, decreases pollutant emissions, enabling green production.

In the water treatment industry, membrane technology plays an irreplaceable role. From the in-depth treatment of industrial wastewater to the purification of drinking water, by removing impurities, heavy metal ions, and microorganisms in water, it provides enterprises with high-quality production water and effluent that meets the standards.

In the biopharmaceutical industry, membrane separation technology can accurately separate and purify biological products, ensuring the activity and purity of products and facilitating the smooth progress of new drug research and development as well as production.

It can be said that membrane technology is gradually becoming an important means for enterprises to enhance their competitiveness and achieve sustainable development.
