Flat Plate Centrifuge: Principle, Applications, Pros & Cons

Flat plate centrifuge is a batch solid-liquid separation machine widely used in industrial purification. Its core separation logic relies on high-speed centrifugal force. Driven by a frequency conversion motor, the drum rotates rapidly to generate centrifugal force hundreds of times gravity. After feed liquid enters the drum, dense solid particles are pushed to the drum wall and trapped by filter cloth or screen, while clear liquid penetrates filter holes and drains out through the liquid outlet. Built-in washing pipelines support in-drum material rinsing; after separation finishes, the machine stops for solid discharge via manual lifting or automatic scraper.

This separator covers multiple mainstream industries. In food & beverage, it clarifies fruit juice, separates sugar crystals and dehydrates starch. In pharmaceutical processing, it complies with GMP standards to extract herbal extracts and purify drug intermediates. The chemical sector adopts it for fine chemical crystal filtration and corrosive suspension treatment. It also handles sludge dewatering in wastewater treatment, and raw material sorting in fine mineral processing. Small models serve laboratory small-batch test separation.

  2. Manual discharge types need labor participation, increasing long-term labor cost.

  3. Filter cloth is a consumable part that requires regular replacement to avoid filtration efficiency decline.

  4. Large-size models occupy relatively large floor space compared with small disc centrifuges.
