Pervaporation is a novel membrane‑based separation technology driven by vapor partial pressure difference. Different from nanofiltration and ultrafiltration which rely on liquid‑phase sieving, pervaporation membrane realizes component separation through selective dissolution‑diffusion. It is mainly applied for organic‑solvent dehydration and solvent recovery in plant extraction industry. Traditional solvent recovery mostly adopts distillation process, which requires high‑temperature boiling and consumes large amount of steam. Pervaporation membrane completes dehydration under mild temperature conditions, reduces thermal decomposition of target substances and cuts overall energy consumption. It provides an energy‑saving alternative for herbal and botanical extract production.
